Where do the voices come from?
They come from your own device and browser, not from this website. Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari each ship a different set of built-in voices, so the list you see depends on your operating system.
Can I download the speech as an MP3?
No. The browser's built-in speech engine plays audio directly and does not produce a file, so there is nothing here to download. To get an audio file, you would need separate recording software that captures your system audio while it plays.
Why do some voices sound much better than others?
Some operating systems include high-quality neural voices alongside older, more robotic-sounding ones. On Windows and Android in particular, voice quality can vary a lot between the options listed.
Why is the voice list empty or short at first?
Some browsers load their voice list asynchronously after the page opens. Give it a second, or click into the voice menu again once the page has fully loaded.
Does this work on mobile?
Yes, it works in mobile Chrome and Safari using the phone's own text-to-speech voices, though the exact list of voices depends on the device.
