What merging keeps and changes

Merging copies each page exactly as it is in the source file and stacks the pages together. It does not flatten, resize or re-encode anything inside them.

If you need the pages in a specific order within a single source file too, run Organize PDF on that file first.

Ways people use this

• Combine a cover letter, resume and writing sample into one file for a job application upload.
• Merge scanned pages from a phone camera into one document instead of sending several photos.
• Combine monthly statements or invoices into a single file for an accountant.
• Merge chapters or sections of a report that were written and saved as separate files.

Before you merge

• Drop every file in first, then drag them into order. Guessing the right drop order upfront is harder than reordering after.
• Run Unlock PDF first on anything that asks for a password when you open it; encrypted files fail to merge as is.
• Delete or reorder a single file's own pages with Organize PDF before adding it to the merge, since merging only combines whole files.
• Give files clear names before dropping them in. The file name is the only label shown in the list while you arrange the order.

How large a merged file can get

There is no built-in cap on file count, page count or total size. Everything runs in your browser's own memory, so the practical ceiling is how much RAM your device has free, not a limit this tool sets.

Merging dozens of large scanned PDFs at once can use a lot of memory on a phone or an older laptop. If the result is too big to email or upload afterward, run it through Compress PDF, which shrinks the images inside without needing the original files again.
