Why the tab needs to stay open
Browsers do not let a background tab fire sound or run code once the tab is fully closed, so this alarm clock only works while the page stays open in front of you, or at least open in another tab on the same device.
For a nap or a short wait this is no different from a phone alarm sitting on the same table. For an overnight wake-up call, your phone's built-in alarm is the more reliable choice, since it keeps ringing even if the phone locks or the app closes.
Getting the most out of it
- Turn on Notify me too so a system notification backs up the sound in case your speaker is muted or another tab has focus.
- Give each alarm a short label, like Meeting or Laundry, so the list stays easy to scan once you have several set.
- Snooze adds exactly 5 minutes and can be used as many times as you need before you dismiss it for good.
- Delete alarms you no longer need instead of leaving them disabled, so the list stays short.
Alarm clock FAQ
Does the alarm work if I close the tab?
No. This alarm clock runs in the page itself, so the tab needs to stay open, and your device needs to stay on and not fully asleep, for it to sound.
What is the difference between once and repeating?
An alarm with no days selected fires once and then turns itself off. Pick one or more days to have it repeat every week on those days.
How long is snooze?
Snooze adds 5 minutes and rings again, as many times as you like.
Can I get a system notification too?
Turn on Notify me too and allow notifications when asked. You will get a notification alongside the sound when an alarm fires.
Are my alarms saved if I close the browser?
The alarms themselves are saved in this browser and are still listed next time you visit, but none of them will fire while the tab is closed. Reopen the page before the time you need it to ring.
Can I set an alarm for just one specific day?
Yes. Pick only that day, like Wednesday, and it fires once a week on Wednesdays until you delete it. Pick no days at all for a one-time alarm that turns itself off after it rings.
What sound does the alarm make?
A synthesized alarm tone generated with Web Audio when the tab is open, not a downloaded audio file, so it plays instantly with nothing to load.
Can I set more than one alarm?
Yes. Add as many as you need, each with its own time, label and repeat days, and they are listed together below the form.
How is this different from a countdown timer?
An alarm fires at a fixed clock time you choose, like 7:00 AM, and can repeat on chosen days every week. A countdown timer instead counts down a length of time you set, like 20 minutes, from the moment you press start.
