Choosing a target format
Changing the target dropdown reruns any files already queued, so you can compare a couple of formats without dropping the file again. The bitrate field only shows up for MP3, M4A and OGG, since WAV and FLAC always keep full quality.
Converting from any of the 5
The source format doesn't limit the target: an OGG file can become a FLAC, an M4A can become an OGG, and so on for any combination. Under the hood, every file is fully decoded to raw audio first and then encoded fresh into whatever you picked, so there's no shortcut path between any two formats that skips a full re-encode, other than staying lossless by picking WAV or FLAC on both ends.

Which format should I pick?
MP3 plays everywhere and stays small. FLAC and WAV keep every bit of the original for archiving. M4A gives slightly better quality than MP3 at the same bitrate. OGG suits games and some apps.
Do WAV and FLAC use a bitrate?
No. Both keep the full audio quality, so there is no bitrate to choose for them. The bitrate option only appears when you pick MP3, M4A or OGG.
Can I convert several files at once?

What's the difference between FLAC and WAV if both are lossless?
FLAC compresses the audio losslessly, so files are usually 50 to 60 percent the size of WAV with no quality difference at all. WAV stores every sample uncompressed.
