Reading the level meter
The bars respond to your microphone in real time, split across frequency bands rather than showing a single volume number. Tall bars filling most of the canvas mean a strong signal; if they barely move, you're likely too quiet or the wrong microphone is selected.
The meter is only a visual aid built from the live audio stream. It has no effect on the recording itself and isn't saved anywhere.
From WebM to MP3
Browsers record voice as WebM audio using the Opus codec, since that's what the MediaRecorder API supports natively almost everywhere. Opus is efficient for speech, but WebM isn't accepted by every app, so the Convert to MP3 button re-encodes the file to the format that plays on the most devices.
Tips for a clean voice recording
- Pick your microphone from the dropdown before you start, especially if your device has a built-in mic and a separate USB or headset one.
- Use Pause instead of Stop if you need a moment to think mid-recording, so you end up with one continuous file instead of several to merge later.
- Record in a quiet room where possible. This tool can raise a quiet recording's volume afterward, but it can't remove background noise that was already picked up.
- Keep the mic a consistent distance from your mouth. Moving closer and further away during a take shows up as the volume rising and falling, which the level meter will make obvious as you go.

Can I choose which microphone to use?
Yes. If more than one microphone is connected, pick it from the list before you start. Device names only show up once you've granted microphone permission.
Can I pause and resume a recording?
Yes. Use Pause and Resume as many times as you like before stopping, and the paused time isn't included in the final file.
What format is the recording?
Recording captures WebM audio with the Opus codec, which most browsers use by default for MediaRecorder. Click Convert to MP3 afterward for a file that plays everywhere, including car stereos and older devices.
Is there a time limit?
No. It records for as long as you like, limited only by your device's memory.
What does the level meter show?
A live bar graph of the microphone's volume across frequency bands, so you can see whether you're speaking loud enough or clipping before you commit to a full take. It's a visual guide only and isn't saved into the recording.
Can I export straight to WAV?
The initial recording is WebM. From there you can download it as is or convert it to MP3. There's no direct WAV export button, but a converted MP3 can be turned into WAV with the MP3 to WAV tool.
Why does my recording sound quiet even though the meter looked fine?
The level meter reflects your microphone's raw input. If playback afterward sounds quiet, try the volume booster tool on the downloaded file rather than re-recording.
Can I cut out a mistake instead of recording again?
Yes. Download the recording, or convert it first, then trim out the part you don't want with the MP3 cutter tool.
Is my voice uploaded?
No. Recording and conversion both happen on your device.
