How the automatic search works
The tool tries quality settings from 1 to 100 with a binary search, keeping the highest one that still lands under 100KB. A PNG kept as a PNG is fitted by testing color counts instead, the same way TinyPNG-style compression works. If even the smallest quality or color setting is still too big, usually only for a very large or highly detailed photo, it shrinks the pixel dimensions by about 18 percent and tries again, up to several rounds, so the file always ends up under the limit.
