How the GIF format works here
Each frame is resized to the same width and height using a fill crop, then converted to an indexed image with up to 256 colors. That 256 color cap is a limit of the GIF format itself, not this tool, which is why photos with smooth gradients can show banding in a GIF that a JPG or PNG would not.

Frame order and sizing
- Drag a frame to reorder it, or use the up and down arrows on each frame.
- Every frame is scaled and center cropped to the width you set, so mixed aspect ratios all end up the same size without stretching.
- A width around 480 keeps the file small for chat and messaging apps. Go higher, up to 2000, for a sharper result on a bigger screen.
Where animated GIFs still work
GIF is one of the oldest web image formats still supported everywhere: every browser, most messaging apps, email clients and social platforms play them automatically with no video player needed, which is why it remains the default for short looping clips despite newer formats existing.

How many images can I use?
As many as you like. Add at least 2 to see an animation, since a single image plays as a still frame.
Can I change the order of the frames?
Yes. Drag a frame to a new position, or use the up and down buttons on each frame.
What does the delay control?
It sets how long each frame shows before the next one, in milliseconds. 500 milliseconds is a comfortable slideshow speed; drop it below 100 for a fast flicker effect.
Why do my images end up cropped?
Every frame in a GIF must be the same size, so images that do not match the width you set are scaled and center cropped to fit.
How big can the GIF file get?
It depends on the number of frames, their width and how much detail each has. A handful of simple frames at 480 pixels wide typically stays under a megabyte; many large, detailed frames can grow much larger.
Can I make a GIF from a single photo?
You need at least 2 images to see an animation. One image on its own just plays as a still frame with no motion.
Does GIF support transparency?
Yes, but only fully transparent or fully opaque per pixel, no partial transparency. A source image with a soft, semi-transparent edge is turned into a hard edge in the output.
Why do my colors look slightly off in the GIF?
GIF only supports 256 colors per frame. Photos with smooth gradients or many similar shades can show visible banding that a JPG or PNG at the same size would not.
Can I remove a frame after adding it?
Yes. Click the remove button on any frame in the list before generating the GIF, or drop more images in to add extra frames at any point.
