Picking one name versus several
Set the pick count to 1 for a single winner or volunteer. Set it higher, say 3, to pick a small group at once, such as choosing 3 people for a task from a larger team.
With no repeats built in, picking several names always returns that many different people. If you ask for more names than are on your list, it tells you instead of repeating anyone.
This makes it different from flipping a coin or spinning a wheel of only 2 options: a name list can hold as many entries as you need, and picking more than 1 at once still respects everyone's fair, equal chance from the full list.

Fairness behind the reveal
The name (or names) are chosen by your browser's cryptographic random number generator the instant you click Pick, before the reveal animation plays. The animation is just for show, it does not influence or delay the outcome.
Picking several names at once never repeats anyone within that batch, unlike drawing names one at a time and putting them back. That matters for things like door prizes, where the same person winning twice in a row would feel unfair even though each individual draw was random.
