Number of teams fixes how many teams exist and spreads everyone across them. With 13 names and 3 teams, you get teams of 5, 4 and 4, since the extra person has to go somewhere and no team ends up more than one person apart.
People per team fixes about how big each team is and works out how many teams that makes. With 13 names and a team size of 4, you get 3 full teams of 4 and one team of 1, so check the result before using it if an uneven last team is a problem.

Tips for a fair split
- Reshuffle a few times if the first split feels lopsided in some way this tool cannot see, like everyone from one group landing together by chance.
- Copy the result as text right after generating so you have a record before you reshuffle again.
- For recurring games, generate fresh teams each session instead of reusing the same split, so it stays fair over time.

How are the teams balanced?
Everyone is shuffled randomly, then split as evenly as possible. If the total does not divide evenly, some teams get one extra person, never more than one apart in size.
What is the difference between the two split modes?
Number of teams fixes how many teams you get and spreads people across them. Team size fixes about how many people are in each team and works out how many teams that makes.
Can I use duplicate names?
Yes. Each line is treated as a separate person even if the text repeats, which is useful for numbered spots like Player 1, Player 2.
Does reshuffle give a new random split?
Yes, every reshuffle uses a fresh random order, so team makeup usually changes each time.
Can I make sure two specific people end up on the same team?
Not automatically. This tool splits everyone at random with no way to pin names together. Generate teams, then manually swap two names between teams afterward if you need a specific pairing.
Does this balance teams by skill?
No. It only balances team size, not ability. If skill matters, sort your strongest players to the top of the list and manually distribute them one per team before adding everyone else.
How many names can I split at once?
There is no fixed limit. Paste as many names as you have, one per line, and it splits all of them.
Does the order I type names in affect the result?
No. Names are shuffled before splitting, so the order you paste them in has no effect on which team someone lands on.
