How the trim handles work
Drag either orange handle along the bar, or click anywhere on the bar to move the nearer handle there. Both handles also respond to the keyboard: the left and right arrow keys nudge by 1 second, and holding shift nudges by 5 seconds.
The start and end time fields stay in sync with the handles, so you can fine-tune a cut by eye and then type an exact number to finish it.
Trim vs compress video
This tool and the compress video tool both re-encode your file, but they solve different problems.

Trim first if you only need part of a long video, then compress the shorter result if it still needs to be smaller.
Tips for a clean cut
- Use Play selection to hear and see exactly what you're about to export before you commit to it.
- Leave a fraction of a second of buffer at the start if the action begins right on a cut, since very fast scrubbing can overshoot by a frame or two.
- For a clip you'll post to social media, trim first and check the length against that platform's limit before you download.
Trim video FAQ
Does trimming lower the quality?
The clip is re-encoded at a high quality setting to guarantee it starts and ends exactly where you set the handles, so it isn't a byte-for-byte copy, but the difference is not visible at normal viewing sizes.
Can I export more than one clip from the same video?
Yes. Adjust the start and end time and click Export clip again. Each export is added to the list below so you can download them all without dropping the file a second time.
What format is the exported clip?
MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio, which plays on nearly every device and app, regardless of whether you dropped an MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV file.
Is there a length limit?
No fixed limit. Very long videos depend on your device's memory and processing power.
What's the shortest clip I can cut?
0.2 seconds. The handles won't let the start and end get closer together than that.
Can I type exact times instead of dragging the handles?
Yes. Type into the start or end field as plain seconds or as m:ss, like 90 or 1:30, and the handles jump to match.
Does trimming remove the audio?
No. Both the video and audio tracks are kept and cut to the same range. Use the mute video tool afterward if you also want to remove sound.
Is my video uploaded?
No. Trimming happens entirely in your browser.
