What happens during conversion
Changing the dropdown reruns any videos already in the queue with the new target, so there is no need to drop them again. Tracks that already fit the new format are copied as they are; the rest are re-encoded at a high quality setting.
When each target makes sense
- MP4: uploading to a platform, sending to someone else, or when you're not sure what they'll open it with.

Which format should I pick?
MP4 plays almost everywhere and is the safest choice. WebM suits websites, MOV suits Apple editing apps, and MKV is common for archiving.
Will my video be re-encoded?
Only when it has to be. If a track already uses the codec the target format needs, such as H.264 video going into MP4, it is copied unchanged. Other tracks are transcoded at a high quality setting so the result plays correctly in the new format.
Is there a size or length limit?
There is no fixed limit. Very long or high resolution videos depend on your device's memory and processing power.
What video and audio codecs does each format use?
MP4 and MOV use H.264 video with AAC audio. WebM and MKV use VP9 video with Opus audio here.
Can I shrink the file size at the same time?
This tool always encodes at one fixed high quality. Use the compress video tool afterward, or instead, if you also need a smaller file with a chosen bitrate or resolution.
Can I convert several videos in different target formats at once?
The format you pick applies to the whole batch. Convert one group to MP4, then change the format and drop another batch if you need a different target.
Can I paste a video instead of dragging the file?

Why not just always convert to MP4?
