Why is my video sideways in the first place?
Phones often record video in one orientation and store the correct rotation as metadata rather than rotating the actual pixels. Some apps and players ignore that metadata and show the raw, sideways frame instead.
Does rotating re-encode the whole video?
For MP4 and MOV files, the new rotation is usually written as metadata and the picture is copied unchanged, which is fast. WebM and MKV containers have no equivalent metadata field, so rotating those always re-encodes the video.
Which way does 90 degrees rotate the video?
Clockwise. If 90 degrees turns it the wrong way, use 270 degrees instead, which is the same as turning it 90 degrees counterclockwise.
Can I rotate by a custom angle, like 45 degrees?
No, only 90, 180 and 270 degrees are offered. Any other angle would leave blank corners that need cropping or padding, which this tool doesn't do.
Will this fix a video that's mirrored, not sideways?
No. Rotating turns the frame around a point; it doesn't flip a mirrored (horizontally reversed) picture. Those are different problems and this tool only rotates.
