The "of" total in a format like 1 of 12 always counts every page in the document, even if you only numbered a range of pages with the pages field.
Starting the count somewhere other than 1
Set Start at to any number to continue the numbering from another file, for example starting at 51 if this document picks up right after a 50-page report.
Combine a page range with a custom start number to skip a cover page: number pages 2 onward and set Start at to 1, so the first numbered page still reads Page 1 even though it is physically the second page.
Choosing a position
- Bottom center is the traditional spot for printed and bound documents.
- A bottom corner keeps numbers clear of a footer that already has text in it.
- A top corner suits documents where the bottom of the page is reserved for other content.

Can I start numbering somewhere other than 1?
Yes. Set Start at to any number, useful when a document continues from another file.
Which formats are available?

Can I number only some pages?
Yes. Type page numbers or ranges like 3-10, or leave it empty to number every page. The count still reflects the whole document.
Can I number several PDFs at once?

How do I skip numbering a cover page?
Type a page range that starts after the cover, such as 2-20, and set Start at to 1. The cover stays blank and the first numbered page still reads Page 1.
Can I change the font used for the numbers?
No. The font is a fixed plain sans-serif. Size, position and format are adjustable, the typeface is not.
